ooh la la! i can finally blog!!
thanks to all you guys who have been regularly looking out for WonderWomen updates. there finally is one now.
today was quite an adventure.
i got a birthday cake, a whole cake all to myself... from my office.
i kinda saw it coming when my colleague first came back with this big prima deli plastic bag and then refused to let me into her office.
so i had this huge cake all to myself, obviously i eventually shared the love with everyone in the office, with the full works (meaning all 500 candles exactly on the cake) and the whole office singing me a birthday song, and knowing how old i really really am. but it was really really sweet. so i entertained them awhile with my indian accent. and i found out that my cake cutting skills aren't that horrendous after all.
then i found out tt boss wouldnt be in on monday so they pushed forward the celebration so that he could be present.
that was really neat... and sweet. so i was a good girl throughout =)
i mean, i usually am, just a good-er one this time.
then it was weekly mtgs, where i was a good girl too. no interpretive drawings, etc.
sigh for those who don't already know, these meetings tend to be very high-tensioned. ppl often disagree and argue and all in those meetings. sometimes its just watching 2 ppl shoot arrows at each other. wonder why they can't reserve those disagreements for another more private occasion.
so none of those happened today. until we talked about this colleague, we'll call her A. she's prob the 1st person i talked to the most when i first joined and she's having loads of personal problems and all so that's affecting her work adversely. sometimes i get very annoyed with her cos she doesnt do what she has to do and all, or she just takes too long, or doesnt appear. and you know how that works and all. i mean on one hand it's so frustrating but then i feel bad when i see her so like dazed sometimes. she just has so much on her mind. she really needs this job but yet she doesnt meet the requirements. sigh. i dunno.
my boss was just saying that i need to monitor her work and all, mentioned a bit about her poor work performance etc, i said i would help her along, etc. and that bit abt tt A ended there.
IF ONLY.
then this other colleague (let's call her B) says "if her work performance is so bad, why don't you just give her the sack?" that was pretty bad i think. and then that led to a few other (negative) comments by the boss and i said again that i would monitor the situation and see what could be fixed, hoping that the topic would change and all. i wish.
and then B says "she's already 30+, she's old enough already, she doesnt need anyone to monitor her work". so another colleague, C, says "its very difficult for her also (as in A), with all the problems and all." obviously C is also trying to stop this discussion from getting out of hand.
then B continues "i think you've done enough to help her. i think we can stop helping her. its not benefitting you (the boss) in any way even after all the help you've given". so yet another colleague, nice girl D says "aiyah boss, just take it that good people have good returns (translate in chinese)" and D is also hoping to end this negative discussion.
and B again goes "i think we should just stop helping her. forget it, you've done a lot for her. just find someone else".
so i was there. honestly, as much as myself, C and D tried to speak up for her, A is really in trouble. and it didnt help that B was just adding fuel to fire. and as much as i didnt like the things B said, they made sense. then i was telling D after the mtg that even wanting to speak up for A was so difficult because she really isnt performing. and D said "its hard, cos she really isnt performing"
i dunno la. its difficult. i guess starting next week im gonna be a monster and breathe down her neck. make sure she gets things done. try and make sure she keeps her job intact. i dunno la. since i started this new post i've had the unenviable privilege of telling 2 ppl to leave the company, i dont want her to be the 3rd, or anyone.
oh well. so it was kind of a bittersweet thingy. its strange how people just cannot live harmoniously with each other. im starting to see too much into people nowadays. it's scary. if only everyone could just live and let live. life would be much much easier.
sigh.
it's really very sad when you dont know who to trust. being in those meetings are giving me a very good "insight" into the world of my office. it sucks and it's hard to be on your guard all the time, yet somehow it's so necessary.
im glad i have you people at church. people whom i know i can trust; people whom i know genuinely love and care for me. it's hard to find in the world out there.
i love you all. thanks loads and loads.
